Week ending June
25th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 06-25-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
this past week have ranged from as close as 15 miles to as far
as 40 miles. Seas this week have been mild ranging between 1 to
2ft to moderate at 3ft. This week skies ranged from cloudly to
overcast days, with some days bringing light rains; however there
as been a few nights with heavy downpours.Most days started with
no to light breezes in the mornings and moderate breezes in the
afternoons.
This week saw fair results with boats reporting
releases in the low to mid single digits. Most boats reported
3 to 7 sailfish releases on conventional
tackle. Once again there were Blue Marlin in the spread. On Monday
our boat the Joint Venture hooked up a 450lb. class blue but after
a short fight the hook came loose from the bill. One other boat
this week did
manage to release two blues. Those boats that went out for dorado
were rewarded with lots of them in the 7 to 15lb. class beginning
at the 15 mile mark.

Week ending June 18th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 06-18-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina, Guatemala. The fishing grounds
for this past week have ranged
from 20 miles to as far as 40 miles. Seas this week have varied
from mild ranging between 1 to 2ft to moderate 2 to 3ft seas.
This week skies ranged from sunny to overcast days, with some
days bringing light
rains; however there as been some nights with light to moderate
downpours. Most days started with no to light wind in the mornings
to light / moderate winds in the afternoons, same as the past
two weeks.
This week saw fair to good results with boats reporting releases
in the low single digits to low double digits. This week we were
happy to host the Jay Halpenny party from Canada. Their first
day (Tuesday) saw only fair results with releasing 3 sails out
of 7 bites and 6 Dorado. On Wednesday they had a good days fishing
releasing 11 sails out of 20 bites and also
boating 20 Dorado. On Thursday they also had another good days
fishing with releasing 9 sails out of 14 bites. All on conventional
tackle.
On Friday we welcomed the arrival of Sam Swisher
and his son out of Boston. Their first day fishing was on Saturday
and they had great day releasing 5 sails and TWO Blue Marlin,the
first marlin (estimated at
300lbs.) first appeared off of the left teaser. With the marlin
rig in hand (Penn International 11 50 wide with 50lb line mated
to a tournament graphite rod) the fight was on.Thirty minutes
later the fight was over
and the mates released the marlin to fight another day. About
one hour later another marlin appeared off of the left teaser,
estimated at about 200lb. Sam’s son chose light tackle and
the fight began, about 1 ½
hours of a great fight the marlin was boat-side and released.
Both of the Swishers had big smiles and explained that they were
their 1st marlins and on the same day. Today (Sunday) saw another
good day with 3 sails being released and another Blue Marlin in
the 200lb. Class. That’s right, 3 marlin in two days with
another day to go.

Week ending June 12th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 06-12-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
this past week have ranged from as close as 10 miles to as far
as 15+ miles. Seas this week have varied from mild ranging between
2 to 2ft to moderate 2 to 4ft seas. This week skies ranged from
sunny to overcast days, with a some days bringing light rains;however
there as been some nights with heavy downpours.Most days started
with no to light wind in the mornings to light / moderate winds
in the afternoons,same as the past week.The week started out with
fair results with boats reporting releases in the low to high
single digits but this weeks end saw only poor releases in the
low single digits on conventional tackle.The silver linings is
that most boats going out
this week caught 5 to 8 dorado's and some boats also caught a

Week ending June 4th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 06-04-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
this past week have ranged from as close as 12 miles to as far
as 30+ miles. Seas this week have been light ranging between 2
to 4ft. This week skies ranged from sunny to overcast days, with
a few bringing light rain.Most days started with no to
light wind in the mornings to light / moderate winds in the afternoons.The
week started out with fair to good results with boats reporting
releases in the high single digits to mid twenties on conventional
tackle.Fly fishermen were releasing their sails in the low to
mid single digits.Unlike the past week these results maintained
themselves thoughout the week.On
Friday the La Piragua released 25 sails.There's more good news
in that the marlin bite still is active with a couple of releases

Week ending May
21st 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 05-21-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
this past week have ranged from as little as 10 miles to as far
as 30+ miles. Seas this week have been moderate ranging between
2 to 5ft. with cloudy or rainy days plus light to moderate winds.
The week started out with poor to fair results with boats
reporting releases in the low to mid single digits. Mid week found
results acceptable with boats reporting releases in the 8 to 12
digit range. However, by Friday the fishing had once again really
slowed down to the
very low single digits but the marlin bite still is active with
the La Sirena releasing a 200lb marlin - On the Fly and the first
of the Yellowfin tuna is
starting to appear.Today Sunday 05-21-06 the fishing again is
picking up,our boat the Joint Venture (35ft.Bertram)released 4
sails,one 400lb.Blue Marlin and a 10 lb. Yellowfin Tuna.For more

Week ending May
14th 2006
This fishing report is for the past eight days ending
05-14-06 and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which
operates out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing
grounds for these past
days have ranged from as little as 15 miles to as far as 30+ miles.
Seas at the beginning of the week have been mild ranging between
1 to 3ft.with sunny days and little wind.However,Saturday night
brought in heavy
rains with some easterly winds causing some moderate chop. The
fishing has been very good to good as Guatemala standards go with
those fishing conventional releasing between 10 to 38+ sails per
day (the norm
was in the low-twenties) with 15 to over 50 raises.On Friday our
boat the Joint Venture released 38 sails.In shore fishing has
cooled off when compared to the previous week along with the previous
weeks Marlin

Week ending May 6th 2006

more Marlin!!!!!
This fishing report is for the week ending 05-06-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
this week has ranged from 20 to as far as 30+ miles. Seas have
been mild ranging between 1 to 3ft.with sunny days and little
wind. The fishing has been fair to good as Guatemala standards
go with fly anglers averaging in the low to mid single digits.
Those fishing conventional were releasing between 8 to 12 sails
per day with 15-20 raises. But the good news is that all of the
boats that went out
this week have had marlin bites or released one or more Blue Marlins.Our
last count totaled 9 marlin releases this week.Today our 35ft.Bertram
The Joint Venture released 10 sails,one 225-250lb Blue Marlin
and a few dorados. In shore fishing has continued to be good.For

Week ending Apr. 30th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 04-30-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina, Guatemala. The fishing grounds
for this week has ranged from 20 to as far as 40+ miles. Seas
have ranged between 1 to 3ft. with overcast days and some rain.
The fishing has been fair to good as Guatemala standards go with
fly anglers averaging in the low to mid single digits.
Those fishing conventional were releasing between 10 to 15 per
day with 20-30 Sailfish raised per day. In shore fishing has been
good.On Wednesday one of our clients was rewarded by catching
this years largest
Wahoo that weighed in at 62lbs.Along with the Wahoo John aboard
our Joint Venture (35ft.Bertram) caught 6 nice Cero Mackerel and

Week ending Apr. 23th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 04-23-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
these past days have ranged from 15 to as far as 40+ miles. Seas
have ranged between 1 to 3ft. with overcast days. The fishing
was fair as Guatemala standards go with fly anglers averaging
in the low to mid single digits. Those fishing conventional were
averaging mid single digits to as high as 25 early in the week.
In shore fishing has picked up,yesterday (Sunday) one of our boats
caught
11 jacks,12 Sierra Mackarel and a nice 35lb Rooster-fish.We at
the Great Sailfishing Company hosted several professional fly
fishing guides who released 4 on the fly Saturday and 2 on Sunday,on
both days the Joint Venture raised 20 sails getting 8 bites.For

Week ending Apr. 14th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 04-14-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
this past week ranged from 15 to as far as 35+ miles. This past
week saw Guatemala's average seas which range between 1 to 2ft.
The fishing was fair as Guatemala standards go with conventional
still in the mid single digits to mid twenties.We at
the Great Sailfishing Company hosted several groups, one of our
groups released 8,11 and 14 sails(Sat,Sunday,Monday)on our 35ft.
Bertram the Joint Venture.Hugo Morales went inshore fishing on
Wednesday and caught several large jacks,two large Roosterfish

these past week ranged from 10 to as far as 35+ miles. This past
week saw some moderate seas in the 3 to 4ft.class at the first
of the week which caused some anglers to return early with the
week ending in calm seas. The fishing was slow as Guatemala standards
go with conventional still in the low single digits to mid teens.We

day charters with results as discriped above, which was par for

these past two week ranged from 15 to as far as 45+ miles. This
past week saw some rough seas in the 6 to 8ft.class which caused
some anglers to return early. The fishing was slow as Guatemala
standards go with conventional in the low single
digits to mid teens. Those who fished on the fly even saw some
days with no releases on few bites.We at the Great Sailfishing

Week ending Mar. 18th 2006
This fishing report is for the week ending 03-18-06
and is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates
out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
this past week has stayed in the
20 to 35 miles range with calm days and fairly flat seas for the
first part of the day and with late afternoon winds causing lite
to moderate chop. This
week saw most boats releasing sails in the mid twenties into the
mid double digits on conventional. Still great fishing by most
anyones standards but it did cool down compared to last weeks
sizzling results.We at the Great Sailfishing Company hosted several
parties / day charters including the Dr.Cimino party that released
35 sails on Friday and 33
yesterday(note:they were hooking-up most of their own sails).At
the first of the week Sunday March 12th, the McFadden party released
77 on conventional which made their total over two days 136 on
conventional and another 6 on the fly.Yesterday one of our day
charters released 17 on the fly fishing on the Tranquility and
our charter on the Stragos released 41 on conventional,also on

Week ending Mar. 11th 2006

- BEST DAY EVER
This fishing report for the week ending 03-11-06
is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates out
of the new Pez Vela Marina, Guatemala.The fishing grounds for
the past week ranged between 18 to 30 miles with calm days and
fairly flat seas with late afternoon winds causing some chop.
This week saw most boats releasing sails in the mid twenties into
the high double digits WITH ONE BOAT REPORTING OVER 100.Today
it looks like another world record for most sails on conventional
was set.This week saw the fishing going from hot to todays red
hot / sizzling. We at the Great Sailfishing Company hosted several
parties / day charters including the Harry party that released
39 sails on Wednesday and 49 on Friday. Today the McFadden party
released 59 on conventional and another 6 on the fly.All of our
parties enjoy the
comforts of The Joint Venture 35ft.Bertram with hot morning coffee
and hot lunches,fresh fruit,snacks and real cold beer.Also the
first part of this week saw Marlins in the spread on three different
days with 3 hook-ups releasing one 300lb and one 400lb Blue Marlin

Week ending Mar. 4th 2006
This fishing report for two weeks ending 03-04-06
is prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates out
of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The fishing for the past
two weeks ranged between 13 to 25 miles with calm days / flat
seas and late afternoon winds causing chop. At the first of the
past two weeks fishing was only fair with most boats boating sails
in the single digits to low teens on conventional tackle
and between 1 to 4 sails on the fly. However, this past week the
fishing went from fair to good with most boats in the mid teens
to mid-twenties on conventional and low single digits on fly (3
to 7). We at the Great
Sailfishing Company hosted several parties / day charters including
the LUC VAN GIJSEL,HERDON and STYLES parties on our 35ft Bertram
The Joint Venture.The Herdon party averaged 19 sails per day,
the
Styles party 14 per day on their last 3 days. All three of these
parties enjoyed the comforts of The Joint Venture with hot morning
coffee and hot lunches, fresh fruit, snacks and real cold beer.
Also, this week saw Marlins in the spread on four different days

MARLINS HOT FOR
GUATEMALA
OVER THE PAST TWO DAYS THE JOINT VENTURE HAS HAD
THREE MARLINS IN THE SPREAD AND YESTERDAY BOATED A 300LB BLUE
AND TODAY BOATED A 400LB BLUE along with lots of sails and a few
dorado.Along with the Joint Venture
the Release boated a Blue Marlin yesterday
Week ending Feb. 18th 2006
This fishing report for week ending 02-18-06 is
prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates out of
the new Pez Vela Marina, Guatemala.The fishing this week ranged
between 13 to 25 miles with
calm days / flat seas and late afternoon winds causing chop. At
the first of the week fishing was very good with most boats boating
sails in the low twenties to low 30's on conventional tackle and
between 3 to 8 sails on the fly. However, later in the week the
fishing did slow down a with most boats in the mid to high single
digits on conventional and low single
digits on fly. We at the Great Sailfishing Company hosted the
Mike Murphy party out of New Jersey on our 35ft. Bertram The Joint
Venture,they boated a total of 44 sails over two days and then
played two nice rounds of golf the following two days before departing
to stateside this coming Monday.We also hosted the Overstreet
party out of Chicago who boated 14 sails their 1st. day and 7
on their 2nd. Oh,yes they hooked up their own sails. Nice job
and let us not forget a local charter of 5 new medical school
grads who boated 22.
Week ending Feb. 10th 2006
This fishing report for week ending 02-10-06 is
prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates out of
the new Pez Vela Marina, Guatemala.The blue water for this week
is still averaging between 12
to as far as 30 miles,with calm days and mild seas at the start
of the week which turned to gusty winds with choppy seas Wednesday,Thursday
and Friday.This week started out with most boats boating sails
on conventional tackle in the high teens to low 30's and fly fisher-persons
in the 2 to 8 sails per day range. Thursday and Friday saw a decline
due to choppy seas and green water.We at the Great Sailfishing
Company
had three parties of fly-fisherman / conventional fishermen.The
Cowen pary fishing on our boat the Joint Venture,35ft.Bertram,
boated 60 sails over 3 days along with a few nice size dorado.
Week ending Feb. 3rd 2006
This fishing report for week ending 02-03-06 is
prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which operates out of
the new Pez Vela Marina, Guatemala.The blue water for this week
has been averaging between 12
to as far as 30 miles with calm days and mild seas but with late
afternoon winds. This week started the Guatemala National Tury
with 20 boats and the action has been good. The daily average
for the week has been in the low teens to mid 20's with the La
Serina boating 37 and The Release boating 44,both yesterday.We
at the Great Sailfishing Company have had
three parties of fly-fisherman who have been boating between 2
to 6 sails per day along with one or two dorado and in the 20's
on conventional.
Week ending Jan. 28th 2006
Prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which
operates out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The blue water
for this week has been averaging between 8 to as far as 35 miles
with calm days and mild seas but with late afternoon winds. The
week begin with only fair results but started heating up on Wednesday
with most boats averaging in the low double digits and by Friday
15 to 20 releases on conventional tackel was
the norm and don't let me forget about the marlin and dorado bite.
There were over 3 nice blue marlin releases and some real nice
bull dorado in the 40 to 50lb class. We at the Great Sailfishing
Company had a busy week with over 30 charters and thank you all

Week ending Jan. 14th 2006
Prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which
operates out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala. The blue water
for this week has been averaging between 5 to as far as 25 miles
with calm days and mild seas. The local fleet has been reporting
only fair to good numbers of 7 to 12 sails releases per day on
conventional tackle and between 2 to 8 sails on the fly.Our guests
fishing on the Tranquility for 4 days had 6 sails on the fly Monday,7
on the Fly Tuesday,3 on the Fly Wednesday and 7 on the Fly Thursday.The
fishing seems to have lightened up on Friday and Saturday with
boats reporting releases on conventionial tackle ranging from

Week ending Jan. 7th 2006
Prepared by The Great Sailfishing Company which
operates out of the new Pez Vela Marina,Guatemala.The blue water
for this week has been averaging between 20 to as far as 45 miles
with calm days and mild seas
until Saturday which had high winds forcing the fleet to return
early. The local fleet has been reporting only fair numbers of
6 to 12 sails releases per day on conventional tackle and between
1 to 6 sails on the fly. The boats have also been reporting some
good size dorado's caught each day which helped take some of the
pain of only fair numbers during the week. Our guests fishing
on the Bora-Bora for 3 days and the Stragos for 2 days released
a total of 30 sails on the fly,1 rooster-fish and 1 jack on the
fly with some dorado on spinning.Our guests on the Tranquility
boated 6 sails
and 6 dorados on Wednesday,6 sails and 1 dorado on Thursday and
ending their 3 days with 9 sails / 1 dorado on Friday.For more
